Technology plays an important role in business and ensuring your tech stack works well together will help bring success in the long term. While it can be a challenge to deep learn and adapt teams to software packages, this detailed knowledge and experience will allow them to work more cohesively, make less errors and let technology do the heavy lifting. Your human resources host great value, but if they are constrained by administrative tasks they aren’t hitting their full potential in your company.
Working With Data
Clean data in CRM’s and accounting software helps reduce mistakes and speed up analytics. Often data is spread across multiple platforms, so integrating platform data means your teams can work on the same page and come to similar conclusions for best practice when it comes to using that data to make decisions.
Removing double handling, setting up custom reports that eliminate variables and ensure it gives a clear picture will not only save hours, but allow for better decision making by your senior leadership team.
Automation
If a computer can do the task, let it. There’s plenty of work and effort that your human resources can allocate to the business, but keeping their attention on clunky admin tasks is one way to reduce the value of your asset (the entire business) and slow your growth trajectory.
While automation can be a challenge to plan for, set up and train others in, the long-term savings will far outweigh the effort. Using automation will give more time to focus on data review, bigger picture planning and ensuring nothing gets missed.
My Projects
Xero & Infusionsoft (Accounting & CRM)
Before
Combination of Xero reports, excel spreadsheets and manual updating of Infusionsoft CRM, manual emails to clients for billing and product. The excel spreadsheets were used to try and keep on top of late or missed payments, but had to be cross referenced across other platforms for the full information. The double handling often created confusion and extra work for no benefit.
After
Automation of Infusionsoft to provide emails, tag client for future filtering, create a template email in Xero. Reports in Xero created to check for missed or late payments and exported as a call list to follow up. In the click of a button, a client had everything they needed and all information was up to date. Any late payments were easily checked by clicking on a single report that filtered for this exact information.
Multi-Site Work
At times, I need to use 3 or 4 websites at once in conjunction with each other. Rather than individually searching, clicking and going through the link paths, I create .bat files to open each direct path URL instantly. All I have to do, is click the icon and it opens the exact path required to do the multi-web task.
The time saving here might be a minute or two, factor in interruptions and multiply this by the number of times this task occurs (think a busy day when this action happens 50 times), you’re looking at a couple of hours of saved time on that busy day.
Enhanced focus and time saved brings the ability to get the job done right, do the necessary systematic checks to ensure completion of all elements required.
Python Automation
Python is a coding language that allows for bulk operating procedures to be completed. Actioning things like file naming systems, emailing, excel workflows and much more become faster and more automated when working with Python.
I have been using python for years, and it has a wide range of applicable uses with any business that uses computers or technology.
Algorithmic Trading
Having commenced my journey as an algorithmic trader in 2014, I taught myself to code in MQL4 and MQL5 language. Backed by a deep understanding of financial markets, I got to work developing automated trading systems to identify opportunities and action them.
While this skill doesn’t directly apply to most businesses directly, think of the opportunities in your business that could be found using programmatic approach and an eye for profit. If it can be found in one of the hardest direct access markets in the world, there will be areas it can be applied in most businesses.
Website Development
In 2016, I began developing my first website and today I have made several across various niches, edited and created landing pages on many other websites over the years. Each year, my ability to design and develop websites improves, along with my understand of what works and what doesn’t when it comes to SEO and marketing.
Websites play a big part in the customer experience, so experience in working with websites and the way customers move can be a big asset to an online heavy company.
